back from field camp. time really flies which thus means that field camp is not as detestable as what most people think it should be after all. on the whole, i would rate it a 6.5/10. the meal rations were rather good except maybe for the fact that the portions are not large enough, and also one thing -i acquired my sorethroat due to the accesory pack that contains muesli bars, julie biscuits, oreo, and all the cereal and drink satchets. they may look enticing from the start, but not after when you realised that the weather is so hot and you will most likely worsen your throat if you do not drink enough water to save your throat and of course, to replenish your body fluids. for the lunch and dinner rations, they are generally okay, basically comprising dishes like moon dhall or red bean dumpling, chilli chicken,vietnamese curry pasta, thai stir-fried noodle, groundnut porridge and so on. They may appear to you as food that have been thrown up but when you are really famished, it does not matter at all. Also, though they are rather cold, it does not matter as reasoned above. The activities are rather fun---you learn things like group formation, artillery defence, crossing an open area, entering a potentially dangerous room via a door or window, leopard crawling under GPMG rapid firing in jungle and urban terrains. They are generally not difficult to pick up though u may need to memorise the commands and sequence of the activities from the start. the understanding part, at least for me, comes in later more often than not. i guess this should not be the way though, cuz its always better to understand things before committing to memory. The activities like basic combat military training, strength training, weapon handling all come in handy during the field camp. Stuffs like checking clear of the SAR, unloading and loading of magazines, using the SAR as a direct contact weapon are prerequisites to engaging in the field camp. you need strength to dig your shell-scrape too and so far the strength training is starting to bear fruits on a gradual basis. For one thing i know regarding the shell scrape, yankee coy dug it twice over 2 days with the reason behind it quite self-explanatorily. the OC was not too satisfied with the overall standard and thus calls for a second dig- which i felt was quite crucial in the sense that we are taught not to view field camp in a flippant manner. This goes the same for the execution of tactics in the jungle and urban terrains which was abysmal i have to admit, which is why yankee coy has to report back to pasir ris interchange at 10am tomorrow instead of 7pm. I guess its time to put in your heart and soul in the things that you are doing in camp, otherwise you will never know that you are shortchanging yourself. Just c aught a mild fever on the last day of field camps, with the symptoms being body aches and sore throat, hopefully recovery is on the go. can't imagine how it feels like undergoing field camp 2 with a sore body man.... realised suddenly that field camp is not over yet, with the SIT test and 12 k route march impending..now for the reflections.
