RCC has officially ended yesterday with the final activity: 1.2km coastal swim which saw only about 20+ trainees donning their life jackets and mingling with the water off yishun dam. Amid these trainees, QK suffered from a sting of a jellyfish that resulted in numbness albeit it being mild. Not surprisingly, the ratio of non-swimmers to swimmers is about 2:1 due to the majority either being cat c or below swimmers or having foot rot. But oh well, everything lasted for about two hours plus or so and things followed smoothly after which. I was in the boat party not because I was a cat c swimmer but because of foot rot, unfortunately. honestly, sea sports like such, though boring due to the regimentation, is refreshing and at least one need not carry out even more mundane admin/fatigue/boat party chores. Though some people may feel that it exempts them from the real activity itself and hence the better it is, but I feel that this is some form of relegation and sluggishness to some extent. As a swimmer, doing the coastal swim itself is definitely better than preparing the logistics for the coastal swim. However, the fact that I got to observe where and how the logistics were gathered, the coordination between the admin party, swimming party and boat party etc, more than compensated the boredom. Staff Raju later mentioned that seletar camp, where we got the boats from, was one of the biggest camps in singapore alongside PLC and SAFTI. It feels good to be able to travel to the different camps in Singapore and observe roughly how they were being run. Well, we managed to leave camp slightly after 2:30pm which was earlier than expected so it was good! As for direct artillery fire training, it was quite an invigorating lesson or rather, experience as we got to view the camp, learn the basics of calling for fire like bracketing, danger close, hasty fire plan etc. Our platoon managed to pass the test but we didn't get our certificates on time:( This week we enjoyed 2 days of off (Mon and Tues), rendering as one of the best weeks of this year I would say! Now RCC is over and CAT is coming up for the next 2 weeks following which I think there would still be a course most probably. Enjoy the weekend for now! Oh one more thing, as you can see from the title, westlife's 10th album will be out in few more weeks time, so watch out for it those WESTLIFE fans!!!
